James Halliday Australian vintage 2012: a snapshot
For many of the regions in Victoria, though by no means all, it was a vintage in two halves: before significant rain events at the end of February and again a week later in March, grape quality was very good to outstanding, but those who were unable to pick before the rain had to be very selective in what was picked, and what was not. The Alpine Valleys had the earliest start to vintage on record, with a dream run until 300 mm of rain fell in early March turned the season on its head. Theearly ripeners of tempranillo, pinot noir and chardonnay are excellent, riesling and pinot gris also good.
